Ozioma Michael, a young lady, has put off her wedding to David Okike, which was set to take place this Saturday, due to domestic abuse.

On Wednesday, Ms Michael, also known as ‘Ada Uburu,’ announced the cancellation of the wedding on her Facebook page.She said that her fiance would “beat and assault” her at the drop of a hat.
The young girl insisted that she had called off the wedding because she did not want to spend the rest of her life dealing with domestic violence.
“My so-called hubby is enraged. His daily routine consists of thrashing me with his belt, stick, and broom. He had lifted his hammer on me several times (but I had fled),” she added.

Ms Michael claims that her fiance vowed to stop beating her when she ran out of the house last year because she couldn’t take it any longer, but months after they reconciled, he began assaulting her again.

“On Monday last week, just because of a small misunderstanding, he beat me viciously, and in the process, he rushed into his mother’s kitchen for a cutlass,” she continued.
The young lady stressed that she called off the wedding because she would not live her entire life enduring domestic violence.

According to Ms Michael, the fiance had promised to stop beating her after she ran out of the house, last year, when she could not bear the beating, but he started beating her again, months after they were reconciled.Continuing she said,” this Monday last week, just because of a little misunderstanding, he beat me mercilessly and in the process of it, he rushed into his mother’s kitchen for a cutlass. “When I realized he was reaching for a weapon, I closed the door behind him, which he forced open, despite his mother and sisters, as well as other neighbors, pleading with him not to cut me with the cutlass.” I’m fed up with all of this and more.”

Mr Okike and Ms Michael met in secondary school, but when the fiancé paid her bride price, he began “maltreating” her, according to Ms Michael.

“This is why I’ve decided to call off my traditional marriage (Igba-Ngwu) and white wedding ceremony with David Okike. “Beating me was not part of our marital covenant,” she continued.

Ms Michael and Mr Okike are from Uburu in Ebonyi State’s Ohaozara Local Government Area. Before the cancellation, Ms Michael added, the couple had planned to marry on Saturday, April 16.

According to the information in Ms Michael’s wedding invitation shared on Facebook, the wedding was set to take place at Living Faith Church Amata Uburu.

Mr Okike did not respond to phone calls or a text message requesting comment.
